Magnetic Island is an island 8 kilometres offshore from the city of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. This 52 km² mountainous island in Cleveland Bay has effectively become a suburb of Townsville, with 2,107 permanent residents. The island is accessible from Townsville Breakwater to Nelly Bay Harbour by ferry. There is a large 27 km² National Park and bird sanctuary and walking tracks can be taken between the populated bays and to several tourist destinations such as the World War II forts. The island has long become established as a holiday destination with many hotels and several resorts in operation to cater for all levels of service.

Must do: 
1. The Forts Walk: Combine WWII history, stunning ocean vistas and regular sightings of koalas and you've stumbled across Magnetic Island's famous Forts Walk! 
2. Sail into the Sunset: With a glass in hand and sunset hues to admire while sailing in paradise... What more could you want on an island escape? 
3. Take a walk on the wild side: Get up close and personal with aussie wildlife at Bungalow Bay Koala Sanctuary. When you are visiting an island famous for being Northern Australia's largest koala population - a koala cuddle is an absolute must!  
4. Take photos:  See the famous SS Adelaide. This shipwreck in the waters of Magnetic Island is a sight to behold. It is best viewed on a tour with the crew from Aquascene Charters. 
5. Go Topless!: Hire a topless car that is. These photogenic barbie inspired cars are plenty of fun to drive and the most fashionable way to beach hop around the island.
