Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach is a city and vacation resort on South Carolina’s Atlantic coast. It is the hub of the Grand Strand: a 60-mile string of beaches. It’s also known for its celebrity-designed golf courses. Along its beachfront boardwalk are arcades, souvenir stands and restaurants, as well as the old-fashioned Family Kingdom amusement park and the SkyWheel, one of the country’s tallest Ferris wheels.

Water sports at the beach range from kiteboarding and jet skiing to deep-sea fishing via charter boats. Myrtle Beach State Park offers hiking trails, surf fishing and a nature centre amid hundreds of forested acres at the beach’s southern end. Nightlife centres on country-music variety like the Carolina Opry and low-key, surfside seafood spots and bars. Myrtle Waves is a large water park. Shopping can be found at Coastal Grand Mall and Broadway at the Beach, a village-like mall that also includes upscale chain restaurants, and Ripley’s Aquarium, with a giant reef ecosystem inhabited by sharks.
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is where cherished memories are made along 60 miles of beautiful coastline. Discover stunning sunrises over the Atlantic Ocean, fun days at the beach, lush natural wonders, and grand new adventures. Savour the warm Southern hospitality, fresh coastal cuisine, and unique flavour of fun.
The downtown district of Myrtle Beach has undergone a serious transformation in recent years, becoming a centre for nightlife thanks to the construction of the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. The 1.2-mile oceanfront walkway weaves through arcades and open-air cafes and bars to create a festive atmosphere that had disappeared with the closing of the old Pavilion. The colourful 190-foot SkyWheel and numerous new clubs, like Jimmy Buffett's LandShark Landing, are hubs of activity, and Plyler Park Plaza features an outdoor stage where free concerts and fireworks shows are held throughout the summer. Myrtle Beach's entertainment complexes continue to serve as centres for night activity. Broadway at the Beach boasts The District, featuring a dozen clubs that allow visitors to pub crawl their way around the complex, Barefoot Resort has the House of Blues and Alabama Theatre for great live music and Market Common has an urban neighbourhood feel with great pubs and dance clubs. For those partial to the good old days, Ocean Drive in North Myrtle Beach has historic beachside dance clubs, like Fat Harold's and Duck's, where '60s music and the shag are still in style.
