The aquarium builds connections to the environment and educates how to protect New Zealand biodiversity through conservation. Their point of difference is their advocacy work for native New Zealand species which inhabit the mountains, forest and sea.
The National Aquarium is one of the few places to see New Zealand Kiwi up close as part of their participation in the national Kiwi Breeding Programme and is home to Alfie the Tuatara who is over 40 years old.
Known for their Rescue and Rehabilitation work for Little Penguins, they offer opportunities to feed the penguins that cannot be released back to the wild, and now call the National Aquarium home.
There a variety of offerings to suit all budgets and itineraries. Customers can choose from conservation sessions, daily guided tours, feeding encounters or general admission. Open 9am - 5pm daily except Christmas Day.
