Mombasa

Mombasa is a place steeped in history, yet at the same time fascinating commercial and cosmopolitan port town. Mombasa is an island connected to the mainland by bridges and ferries. The town overlooks a wide harbour, where commercial shipping mingles with traditional sailing dhows.

The true heart of Mombasa is found in the exotic old town, among the narrow winding streets and Arab architecture. The air here is always heavy with the scent of spices.

Mombasa is a popular tourist destination, known for its beautiful beaches, coral reefs, and historical landmarks. The city is also a major commercial center and is home to a number of industries, including tourism, shipping, and manufacturing.

Here are some of the things you can do in Mombasa:

  • Visit Fort Jesus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Mombasa.
  • Explore the Old Town, a maze of narrow streets and alleyways lined with shops, mosques, temples, and churches.
  • Go snorkeling or diving in the Mombasa Marine National Park and Reserve, a protected area that is home to a variety of marine life, including dolphins, turtles, and coral reefs
  • Visit the Haller Park, a former limestone quarry that has been transformed into a lush botanical garden and wildlife sanctuary.
  • Visit the Mombasa Tusks, a pair of giant elephant tusks that serve as a gateway to the city.
  • Shop at the Mwembe Tayari Market, a huge market where you can buy everything from souvenirs to fresh produce.
  • Try some of the delicious Kenyan food. Mombasa has a variety of restaurants serving Kenyan cuisine, as well as international cuisine.
