Beluga & Polar Bear Summer Adventure - an amazing Canada wildlife holiday.

From your base in the excellent Lazy Bear Lodge in Churchill, you will head out into Hudson Bay in search of polar bears and beluga whales.

There will also be time to delve into the fascinating history of the area.

ADDITIONAL: It is recommended that the following activities are requested at the time of booking.

Guided Kayaking (3 hours)

Paddle amongst beluga whales in the Churchill River with an experienced guide. Beluga whales are curious creatures and on occasion they may trail behind the kayaks! The excursion takes place at low tide and focuses on spending time with the beluga whales in their natural environment. This adventure is safe for beginners and first time kayakers; a short instructional session will be provided prior to going on the water. Included are equipment (single or double kayak, wet suit, life jacket and neoprene boots), experienced guide, and dockside transfers. Some passengers choose to wear bathing suits or thermal clothing under the wet suits. It is best that clothing be close fitting. The excursion is subject to weather conditions.

Beluga AquaGliding™ (3 hours)

Glide above the water for a truly unique excursion creates a non-threatening posture, encouraging some of the thousands of friendly and curious Beluga Whales to approach us in their natural habitat. Recommended for ages 12 and older, all equipment is provided including wet suits, neoprene boots, gloves and lifejackets. Please note: It is best that clothing be close-fitting, thermal clothing, bathing suits or similar under the wetsuits. (Dry suit available upon request). Activity is subject to weather and water condition.

  • 3-hour (approx) Beluga Whale Boat Tour/Fort Tour to see Beluga Whales in the water and walking tour of the historic Prince of Wales Fort (based on availability)
  • 2-3 hour (approx) Cultural and Heritage Tour of the Churchill area, including historic Cape Merry and the Polar Bear Jail

Day 1 - Arrive Winnipeg

Take a taxi from Winnipeg Airport to Inn at the Forks and check in. Overnight in Winnipeg.

Day 2 - Winnipeg to Churchill

After breakfast, a group transfer will take you to the airport for your flight to Churchill. A Lazy Bear Lodge guide will meet you upon arrival at Churchill Airport and escort you to the lodge where you embark on the Cultural and Heritage Tour, which takes you to Churchill and the surrounding area where you will be exploring various historic sites. These include Cape Merry, an outside tour of the polar bear holding facility, the wreckage of the famous plane, “Miss Piggy”, and many other historic sites that make Churchill the town it is today. Afterwards, check in and meet your hosts for the next five days. This afternoon and during your holiday, you will have a limited amount of free time to independently explore Churchill. You may also inquire with the front desk about optional tours and excursions you may book during your time at the lodge.

Day 3 - Hudson Bay Coastal Boat Tour

Today you depart on a full-day Hudson Bay Coastal Tour by boat with the opportunity to view the polar bears along the coast of Hudson Bay and other local river estuaries. These magnificent creatures can be seen in these areas, swimming in the water or cooling off on the rocks. A day of fun and learning is complemented by lunch served on board during the tour.

Day 4 - Beluga Whale Boat Tour

After breakfast, you take to the waves again on a 3-hour Beluga Whale Boat Tour in search of the ivory-coloured beluga whales. Also included in the excursion is a walking tour of the historic Prince of Wales Fort, giving you a taste of the region’s past days.

Day 5 - Optional Tours / Free time

Today you may embark on any postponed or optional tours requested that were not able to be taken earlier during your stay due to weather or other factors. Or perhaps independently visit some sites like the Itsanitaq Museum and the Canada Parks Museum as well as unique shops in town and see the authentic Native Art.

Day 6 - Arctic Crawler Tundra Tour / Lodge to Winnipeg

Following your last delicious breakfast at the Lazy Bear Lodge Café. This 3-hour Tundra Tour will allow you to experience the Arctic Crawler™ and take you to explore the beauty of the tundra, the flora and fauna and possibly various wildlife in the comfort of a specially constructed all-terrain vehicle. The lodge shuttle takes you to Churchill Airport for your return flight to Winnipeg. Upon arrival in Winnipeg, you will transfer to an airport hotel.

Day 7 - Depart Winnipeg

After breakfast, check out from your hotel and transfer independently to Winnipeg International airport for your return flight.
