My journey began in Singapore, a dazzling metropolis where modern architecture blends seamlessly with lush green spaces and vibrant neighbourhoods. My first stop was Marina Bay Sands, an iconic landmark with incredible skyline views. Exploring Gardens by the Bay felt surreal, especially at night when the famous Supertree Grove lit up beautifully.
Singapore’s culinary scene was equally impressive. Hawker centres like Lau Pa Sat and Maxwell Food Centre provided unforgettable meals, from Michelin-starred dishes like Hainanese Chicken Rice to delicious Char Kway Teow. Wandering through Little India and Chinatown brought sensory delights with colourful sights, fragrant spices, and charming local crafts.

Leaving the ultra-modern landscape of Singapore behind, I travelled to Yogyakarta, the cultural heart of Java. The city's deep traditions, artistic heritage, and warm hospitality immediately captivated me. Visiting the Sultan’s Palace (Kraton) offered fascinating insights into traditional Javanese culture, with vibrant performances and local customs. Malioboro Street was bustling with vendors selling unique handicrafts, textiles, and irresistible local snacks.
One of the highlights was visiting Borobudur, the world's largest Buddhist temple and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Arriving before sunrise, I watched in awe as the temple emerged from the misty dawn, creating an unforgettable, serene experience.
Yogyakarta’s food scene delighted me with local specialties like Gudeg, a sweet jackfruit stew, and Bakpia, tasty pastries filled with mung beans, which I sampled in cozy cafes and lively markets.
My next destination was East Java and the majestic Mount Bromo. Known for its surreal volcanic landscape, Mount Bromo offered one of the most spectacular sunrises I've ever witnessed. Rising early, I travelled by jeep across the eerie Sea of Sand and ascended Mount Penanjakan. Watching the sunrise illuminate the rugged peaks and the smoking crater of Mount Bromo was nothing short of magical—a true bucket-list moment.
After the sunrise, I ventured closer, hiking up to the volcano's rim to gaze into the smoking crater. The experience was exhilarating and unforgettable.
Finally, I arrived in Bali, an island paradise known for its stunning beaches, lush rice terraces, and enchanting sunsets. Relaxing on beaches like Seminyak was delightful, with stylish beach clubs and gourmet restaurants nearby. For quieter moments, I enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere and fresh seafood at Jimbaran.
Exploring Ubud, Bali’s cultural heart, I was captivated by the lush greenery of the Tegalalang rice terraces. Walking through these terraces provided wonderful photo opportunities and moments of peace. Immersing myself in Balinese culture, I visited temples, watched traditional dances, and took local cooking classes. The cliff-top Uluwatu Temple offered breathtaking sunset views over the Indian Ocean—another highlight of my trip.
Bali’s culinary scene ranged from casual street food at warungs to sophisticated restaurants. I savoured delicious dishes like Babi Guling (roast suckling pig), sate lilit, and Nasi Campur. Exploring food markets like Pasar Badung gave me a vibrant insight into local life, filled with aromas and colourful produce.
This journey through Singapore, Yogyakarta, Mount Bromo, and Bali was an enriching mix of modern marvels, cultural heritage, natural wonders, and incredible culinary discoveries. Each destination offered distinct and unforgettable experiences, balancing adventure, relaxation, and cultural immersion perfectly.
Whether marvelling at Singapore’s modern sights, soaking in Yogyakarta’s rich traditions, witnessing Mount Bromo’s breathtaking sunrise, or enjoying Bali’s idyllic beaches and sunsets, this Southeast Asian adventure left me with lifelong memories.
