ESTA is an electronic travel authorization linked to your passport, allowing you to travel to the USA for short stays up to six months.
Apply for ESTA at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta for $21.
Most applications are approved within minutes, but it may take considerably longer if you need to submit documents or are required to obtain a US Visa in person from a US Embassy.
ESTA is valid for up to two years or until your passport expires which ever comes first and you can apply for it as many times as you need.You do not need to renew your ESTA if you have a change or error in employment, home address, work address, phone number, email address, travel itinerary, transit status, travel address, or in the point of contact information does not require that a new application be submitted, or that an existing application be updated. However, please have the correct information readily available, as it may be requested during the inspection process.
If you've ever reported your passport as lost or stolen, don't use it for travel to the USA.

Entering the United States by land
Travellers who make their initial entry into the U.S. by land from either Canada or Mexico are NOT required to travel authorization through ESTA before travelling. Warning If your passport has ever been reported lost or stolen to the authorities and then recovered, please do not attempt to use it for travel to the United States. If you input the passport details into ESTA, your application will be denied. Submit your ESTA Application at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/
Important - If you have visited Cuba at all – at any time and not even with the same passport, you are no longer eligible to use an ESTA for entry to USA and will require a full visa.
USA made Cuba a State of Terrorism in January 2021 but this rule applies even if you travelled before this date.

When filling out your ESTA you will be asked ‘Is your travel to the US occurring in transit to another country?’ Select NO. You will then be asked for U.S. Point of Contact Information. For your cruise you should enter the cruise lines head office address and phone number.
