This fourteen night journey traces Mexico's cultural and coastal highlights, opening with three days in Mexico City exploring its cathedrals, museums and the pyramids of nearby Teotihuacán, before flying to the Yucatán Peninsula. There, colonial Mérida, the ancient city of Uxmal and the market town of Valladolid lead through a landscape of cenotes, mangrove reserves and Maya ruins including Chichén Itzá and Cobá, finishing at the beach ruins of Tulum. The final five nights are spent all inclusive at the Allegro Playacar on the Riviera Maya, offering a relaxed close to a trip that blends history, nature and coastline in equal measure.

Day 1 - Mexico City

Arrival into Mexico City, where you'll be met at the airport by an English speaking driver guide. Transfer to your hotel in the historic centre. Spend the rest of the day at leisure. Accommodation: Histórico Central or similar B&B

Day 2 - Mexico City

A full day tour of Mexico City, taking in the Zócalo, the Catedral Metropolitana and Chapultepec Park with its castle and museums. The afternoon includes the Museo Nacional de Antropología and a boat trip through the floating gardens of Xochimilco, with a snack included.

Day 3 - Mexico City

Visit the twin basilicas dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe before heading out to the pyramids of Teotihuacán, walking the Avenue of the Dead through one of the largest ancient cities in the Americas.

Day 4 - Merida

Transfer to Mexico City airport for your flight to Mérida. On arrival, a city tour of the Yucatán capital takes in the cathedral, the Palacio Municipal and the Casa de Montejo.

Day 5 - Uxmal

Morning market visit in Mérida to learn about Yucatec spices and ingredients, followed by the drive to Uxmal to explore its Maya ruins and a stop at the Ecomuseo del Cacao to sample traditional chocolate drinks.

Day 6 - Valladolid

Visit the Cenote Yokdzonot for a swim or zip line, then continue to Chichén Itzá to see El Castillo and El Caracol before arriving in Valladolid.

Day 7 - Valladolid

Full day excursion to the Ría Lagartos Biosphere Reserve, with a boat tour through mangrove channels past the pink salt ponds of Las Coloradas, box lunch included.

Day 8 - Tulum

Morning walking tour of Valladolid and a visit to the Mayapán mezcal distillery, then on to the ruins of Cobá before arriving in Tulum.

Day 9 - Playa del Carmen

Visit the clifftop ruins of Tulum overlooking the Caribbean, followed by Cenote Manatí for swimming or snorkelling. Transfer to Playacar.
