Day 1 - Sydney

Check into your chosen hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2 - Sydney & the Blue Mountains

Spend the day on a tour of the Blue Mountains National Park. This wonderland of sandstone outcrops, deep ravines and hazy blue eucalypt forests boasts luxury retreats and stunning views. Your guide will take you off the beaten track to visit remote lookout locations and discuss the history, flora and fauna of this magnificent region.

Day 3 - Sydney

A full day at leisure to enjoy the sights of Sydney at your own pace.

Day 4 - Sydney to Adelaide

Board a domestic flight to the South Australia capital of Adelaide. Check into your chosen hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 5 - Adelaide

A day at leisure to explore the galleries, cafes and museums of vibrant Adelaide. Optional day tours to the Barossa Valley can easily be arranged.

Day 6 - Board the Ghan in Adelaide

Your journey on The Ghan begins in Adelaide this afternoon, as you settle into the rhythm of life on the rails and watch the countryside roll past your window.

By early evening, the train arrives at Long Plains, where you transfer into the rolling vineyards of the Clare Valley, one of South Australia's most celebrated wine regions. At Penobscot Farm, a signature dinner awaits in the reimagined Woolshed, curated exclusively for guests of The Ghan. Every dish is drawn from the farm's own biodynamic produce, paired with Clare Valley's celebrated Rieslings and reds under the guidance of Executive Chef Nicola Palmer. As the sun sets over the vines, raise a glass to the days of discovery ahead.

After dinner, return to the train and retire for the night as The Ghan continues north.

Day 7 - The Ghan - The Flinders Ranges

Wake to the changing countryside as The Ghan arrives into Port Augusta, South Australia's gateway to the outback. After breakfast, step off the train for a full day discovering one of the nation's most remarkable regions: the Flinders Ranges.

Your Off Train Experience takes you deep into one of the oldest mountain ranges on Earth, where 600 million years of geological history has folded the land into dramatic gorges and red rock outcrops. Stand amid ancient rock formations and take in a landscape millions of years in the making.

From here, head to the historic town of Quorn, once a vital crossroads on the Trans-Australian Railway and now home to the heritage Pichi Richi line. Settle in for lunch paired with the botanicals of Flinders Gin, distilled from the landscape around you. Visit the ruins of Kanyaka Station and hear stories of the ruined dreams of colonial farmers in this harsh and unrelenting landscape, a striking introduction to the outback.

After a day of exploration, rejoin the train for a relaxed evening on board recalling the day's adventures.

Day 8 - The Ghan - Malara & Alice Springs

Begin with a freshly brewed coffee or juice as the day dawns at Marla, an outback outpost in the remote reaches of South Australia. It is here, deep inland, that you will enjoy a one of a kind experience, as you watch the desert come to life at sunrise.

All aboard for brunch as you make your way through the MacDonnell Ranges to Alice Springs where a choice of Off Train Excursions awaits. Alice is an iconic Red Centre outpost. 1,500 kilometres from the nearest major city, it may be remote, but offers plenty to explore – home to doctors who fly, rivers that run dry, and a cast of colourful characters.

Your time in the ‘capital out of the outback’ offers numerous opportunities to explore its historic legacy and unique environment.

Day 9 - Katherine & arrive in Darwin on The Ghan

Your day dawns in the tropical north. The pristine wilderness of Katherine is stirring and powerful, and you’ll have the chance to explore it from the water or land with your choice of off train experiences.

Cruise the jaw-dropping Nitmiluk Gorge, learn more about its ancient Indigenous rock paintings and gain insight into the culture of the traditional owners of Nitmiluk, the Jawoyn people, or discover authentic outback life on a cattle station. 

As evening falls, arrive in Darwin to complete your epic Australian journey, where you can spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 10 - Darwin

A full day at leisure to reflect on your epic trans continental journey and explore Darwin at your own pace. Speak to your consultant regarding the various optional excursions available.

Day 11 - Darwin to Perth

By this stage you will have been in the East, South and North of Australia, its now time to head West. Fly to Perth, check into your chosen hotel in Perth and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 12 - Perth

Enjoy a morning cruise along the Swan River. A wonderful way to acquaint yourself with the laid back city of Perth.

Day 13 - Perth

Spend a full day at leisure in Perth to explore this sun-soaked city at your own pace.

Day 14 - Perth Return

The itinerary concludes today in Perth. Transfer to the airport for your onward flight home.
